About Us
For over a century, the Truro & Colchester Chamber of Commerce has served as the primary advocate for the regional business community. Since our establishment in 1890, we have evolved to address the dynamic landscape of economic, political, and social spheres. Our enduring commitment lies in fostering a vibrant, cooperative, and interlinked business environment.
Established on September 11, 1890, the Truro Board of Trade boasted 37 founding members from diverse professions including merchants, manufacturers, pharmacists, physicians, and bankers. Notable family names like Hay, Walker, and Tupper, among others, have left enduring legacies in our business community. Spearheaded by George A. Hall of Crosoup & Co. Dry Goods, and under the leadership of Gardiner Clish from Truro Foundry and Machine Company, the organization was envisioned to serve as the authoritative "Voice of Business," advocating for members' interests across economic, political, and social spheres.
Over its 130-year journey, the organization underwent three name changes, evolving from the Truro Board of Trade to the Truro & District Chamber of Commerce in 1973, and ultimately adopting its current name, the Truro & Colchester Chamber of Commerce, in 2013.
