Regardless of size or scope, organizations in every sector or industry can have different views on ‘research’ and how it can help their business. At its core research is not about statistics or data – how many times have you sat through a dreary and detailed presentation with reams of charts and data points yet not really learned anything new? Worse, how much money has been wasted on research that doesn’t actually lead to better decisions? Let’s not over-complicate this - the best research is really about asking good questions and simply engaging the people who matter most to your business.
At this point you’re probably wondering – do I really want to sit through a presentation on research? Really? (Good question.) This won’t be your typical research presentation. Heck, we hate typical ‘data dumps’ and charts as much as the next person. Instead, we want to share our experiences working with organizations across Canada and provide some basic principles for getting the best research for your organization – whether you try to tackle it on your own or bringing in someone to help you with it. We have a pretty good idea of what we want to share including:
