Presenter: Lisa Kowalchuk
Lisa is the Executive Director of the Medicine Hat & District Chamber of Commerce. Hired in November 2009 at a time when the Chamber was in financial distress, Lisa was tasked with budget preparation and creation and implementation of a plan to inject not only a renewed sense of commitment and energy into the Chamber and its members, but also financial stability through fiscal restraint and increased revenues. Through her operational effectiveness and efficiency, the Chamber has sustained year over year profits, with an over 92% retention rate this last fiscal year and has a consistent net membership growth of over 5%.
Lisa’s team consists of six staff including an Administrative Assistant, Membership Services Coordinator, Events & Communications Coordinator, Accounts & Policy Coordinator, Sales Manager and Trade Show Manager. The Chamber runs approximately 22 events per year, plus two large scale consumer trade shows and the Chamber also oversees the management and contract for a Travel Alberta Visitor Information Centre which employs six seasonal staff from May to September. With an active team, a Board of 12 Directors, nine active committees to assist, and a hefty policy agenda, time management is key to this organization.
